Ambulance Cover

Emergency transportation and ambulance services are essential for urgent medical care, but they are not covered by Medicare.

Each Australian state funds ambulance cover differently and eligibility will vary depending on where you live.

Australian Capital Territory

Some pensioners and low income earners may be entitled to free ambulance transport services through the state, and do not need to arrange separate cover.

Anyone not eligible for free ambulance transport services should consider taking out ambulance cover through their health fund. Fortunately, ambulance cover is often included under many hospital and extras polices. Alternatively you may take out ambulance cover on its own.

If you’re not eligible for free ambulance transport, you may wish to organise ambulance cover through SA Ambulance Service or through your health fund.

If you take out state ambulance cover, your health fund may reimburse you for all or part of your annual subscription. Alternatively, if you choose to take out ambulance cover through your health fund, you’ll often find that it may already be included under some of their hospital and/or extras covers.
