Extras Cover

Extras cover (also called ancillary cover or general treatment) provides insurance against some or all costs of treatment by ancillary health service providers, not otherwise covered by Medicare. Extras policies may be offered separately or combined with hospital cover.

There are three general categories of policies.

How do I claim?

There are a number of ways to claim back on extras from your health fund.

Claims Card

Your health fund card will also double up as a claims card for extras services. If your provider uses HICAPS or iSoft, your card can be swiped to simply deduct your benefit at the point of service. Then you just pay whatever is left over.

Online member services

Most funds provide you a login to their Online Member Services portal to submit your claims online.

Email, fax or postal mail

Just complete a claim form and submit it with your provider invoices to be processed.

over the phone

Over the phone

To claim over the phone, call your health fund with your membership number and provider invoice handy.

Can I make claims through Health Insurance Advocates?
